Today, the Senate passed the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in a 69-30 vote. After working closely with our congressional champions and partners on the Integrated Ocean Observing System Build Back Bluer request, we are pleased to see $150 million included in the Senate’s bipartisan infrastructure plan for ocean observing systems. These funds would provide much-needed funds for aging infrastructure, technology, and operational data supporting our coastal and Great Lakes regions.
What’s next: Although the Senate has passed this infrastructure legislation, the House still has to review, amend, and vote on this bipartisan infrastructure deal as well. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has committed to bring the House back from recess to vote on the bill only if the Senate is also able to pass the larger, Democrat-only budget reconciliation package that contains more of the party’s agenda, which is unlikely before October.
